ACCOMMODATION & ATTRACTIONS |
Occupying a quiet nook just a few minutes' walk from the village shop/pubs, Gardeners Cottage is ideally situated for mountain, valley, woodland and riverside walks, whilst there are also many fascinating and historic places to visit nearby.
The cottage is centrally-heated and comfortably furnished throughout, comprising: charming sitting room with doors to sundeck, original open fire (logs provided) & TV/DVD; kitchen/diner with cooker, fridge, microwave, washing machine/dryer; good-sized porch for boots & outdoor clothing; easy staircase to upper floor; bedroom with super king-size four-poster bed; bedroom with two single beds; bathroom with bath, shower and toilet; secluded, sunny rear garden area; private car-parking areas at front. Well-behaved children & pets are welcome, but we do request no smoking inside the cottage.
Explore this magnificent, peaceful valley on foot via many delightful paths, cycle on quiet lanes to fascinating villages, or use the famous "La'al Ratty" narrow-gauge steam railway (The Green station is just a few minutes away).
Our local attractions include: exceptionally beautiful scenery all around; rich and varied wildlife - woodpeckers can be observed from our windows and Giggle Alley woods (with a Japanese Garden) are just across the lane; The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway 'La'al Ratty' - a delightful steam line; Boat How circles - megalithic monuments in a majestic mountain setting; Hardknott Roman Fort; Ravenglass Roman Port; Gosforth Anglian Cross; Muncaster Castle & gardens; Dalegarth Hall and Stanley Ghyll waterfall; Boot village and church; Broughton-in-Furness historic market town; Wasdale & Wastwater; the Duddon Valley; the 'secret valley' of Miterdale; traditional pubs, local farm food shops & quality art/craft galleries.
The strong-winded can climb England's highest mountains from our door without crossing a road, whilst the steel-nerved can take the road over the spectacular Hardknott and Wrynose passes to Langdale, Grasmere, Ambleside & Windemere. Alternatively 'green' tourists can forget the car, to just spend a 'reet good time' pottering amongst our lovely fells and dales, using the friendly well-stocked shop or welcoming local pubs, and enjoying the space, peace and tranquillity of our 'perfect Arcadia in the hills'.
