WEARING WELL

Money well-spent
enriches wealth.

A body well-exercised
benefits health.

A well-used teapot
brings much refreshment.

A well-marked book
inspires deep reflection.

A well-worn face?

Faces wear well!

'Non-attachment', or freedom from addictive or obsessive desire, is an important component of both Taoism and Buddhism.
The Taoist view is that 'attachment' blocks the onward flow of energy, drains vitality, and disrupts the rhythms of healthy living.

Striving to hold onto wealth, strength, beauty or knowledge are other examples of attachment; use them to serve and they will be conserved.
The sage lives by the motion of use, and becomes fossilised by disuse.
'Better to wear out than to rust out' is a homespun expression of this view.
