SWEETGALE
LESS IS MORE

A ring may be small, even paltry;
yet its significance huge, and awesome.

Tao's essence is so mild, it seems barely there;
yet it pervades, everywhere.

The truly wise are hardly aware of wisdom,
regarding it as trifling.

The truly good are unattached to virtue,
finding it unseemly to display.

The sage hides in plain sight

- even from themself!

Craving to possess wisdom, or virtue, is a hindrance to attaining or experiencing them. To seek humbly is the way to 'court Sophia'.
To become possessed by wisdom is also most unwise, as many a 'sacred' revelation has demonstrated by its consequences in reality.
Both such modes illustrate imbalances of approach and perception; Taoism promotes balance as fundamental to a true partnership.
