GIGGLEGLORY

SWEET HOME

The sage's home enjoys seclusion,
but its outlook is wide and far-ranging,
and its doors are welcoming.

The household is diligent but not driven,
relaxed and easy-going, but not slack or slovenly.
Spiders have houseroom, in moderation.

When important matters are dealt with,

good humour is an attentive host,

and laughter a willing servant.

There is nothing of any great price within,
but much to treasure!

Castle of Comfort, Cottage of Content, Sanctuary of Simplicity: such terms epitomise Lao Tsu's concept of an ideal home,
or rather of a real dwelling in which Tao is encouraged to flow freely. This is not attained simply by applying 'Feng-shui'
but by the infusion of Tao's essence into the hearts and minds of its inhabitants.

Shangri-La, the Arts & Crafts movement, the Garden Cities initiative, are all manifestations of the Taoist version of Utopia.
They involve simple yet varied and satisfying work, play and education; a modest and restrained application of technology;
minimal but clear and effective law and governance; and a moderate, environmentally sustainable scale of development.
